Celebrating the journey
As the end of the year approaches, I've been reflecting on the way Beyond Laundry has developed since the team first began to form. It's been exactly eight months today since I joined the Copenhagen Business School Social Entrepreneurship course and nervously shared my idea for a sustainable laundry center with other students. It's hard to believe all that's happened since then.
One of the recent highlights is that we've now completed our first technical assistance grant from the New Mexico Small Business Assistance program and received the final feasibility report from Mark Bibeault, the wonderful engineer at Los Alamos National Laboratory this grant has allowed us to work with. We've been encouraged to apply for another NMSBA grant in the new year to continue designing the modules that will integrate solar power, rainwater harvesting, and greywater recycling into the laundry process.
We also recently did our first investor pitch, which was a great learning experience. And just this past week we found out that we've been accepted into the Mentor Capital Network, which will allow us to receive expert one-on-one guidance on our business plan as well as compete for cash prizes. Out of over 300 global applicants, we were one of only 38 teams accepted. What an honor!
It's difficult to convey how grateful I am for these opportunities. When I think about all that's happened and all we've accomplished, it's really pretty astonishing. (You can read about some of our other milestones in our previous post.) And what amazes me most, what I'm most grateful for, is the extraordinary team that I get to work with. I can't even imagine what it would be like without this group of brilliant yet humble, diverse, passionate, and devoted group of people that I get to call my partners on this journey. So a big thank you goes to Melanie, Mark, Arun, Santi, JonnaLynn, Alima, and our newest team member, Pam. I can't wait to see where we go in 2016!
